CFTR function is central to the pathogenesis of CF. Airway surface physiology is an aggregate of many components, one of which is CFTR-mediated anion transport. In this session, we will explore what aspects of airway surface physiology are restored by CFTR-mediated anion transport and whether certain features may not fully recover with anion transport alone.

Learning Objectives:

  • Define the measures of airway surface physiology that are defective in CF
  • Discuss the role of CFTR ion transport on restoration of aggregate airway surface physiology
  • Assess what airway surface physiology may not be fully restored despite CFTR function
