This symposium session intends to provide education to members of the CF care team regarding sexual and reproductive health in CF. People with CF are living longer, and sexual and reproductive health concerns are becoming increasingly important. People with CF experience gaps in receiving sexual and reproductive healthcare and have voiced that they want to discuss these topics with their CF providers. This session aims to better equip care team members by summarizing and applying key recommendations from the recent CF Foundation Sexual and Reproductive Health position paper. It will also address topics such as contraception in CF and male infertility treatment strategies. Lastly, the session will explore strategies to routinely incorporate sexual and reproductive health education into pediatric CF care.

Learning Objectives:

  • Summarize and apply key recommendations from the CF Foundation Sexual and Reproductive Health position paper. Participants will be provided with highlights of the recommendations from the CFF SRH position paper to help enhance clinical practice and patient education.
  • Identify and discuss sexual and reproductive health challenges in CF. Participants will understand the implications of male infertility in CF and explore current treatment options for infertility and testosterone supplementation, clarify common myths related to oral contraceptive (OCP) use and learn useful strategies for SRH counseling throughout the lifespan.
  • Explore strategies to incorporate sexual and reproductive health care education into pediatric and adolescent CF Care. Participants will explore strategies to initiate and normalize discussions about sexual and reproductive health in pediatric CF care settings, ensuring that conversations are both age-appropriate and sensitive to developmental needs, in line with evidence-based practices.
