W28--Nutritional Breakthroughs: A Workshop on Evidenced-based Nutrition

This session will explore emerging research on gastrointestinal (GI) dysfunction in individuals with cystic fibrosis (CF), with a focus on how disease progression and CFTR modulators influence intestinal health. Presenters will examine the effects of advanced CF liver disease (aCFLD) and Elexacaftor-Tezacaftor-Ivacaftor (ETI) on gut integrity, microbial profiles, and symptom expression. Findings from the PROMISE and GRAMPUS-CF studies, among others, will showcase how multi-omic tools and symptom-based phenotyping are contributing to a more mechanistic and personalized approach to GI symptom management in CF. 

Learning Objectives:

  • Summarize gut microbiota and metabolomic alterations in CF, particularly in aCFLD and after ETI therapy. 
  • Evaluate the impact of Elexacaftor-Tezacaftor-Ivacaftor (ETI) on fecal microbiota composition, intestinal inflammation, and metabolic profiles in individuals with CF. 
  • Apply emerging research findings from cohort studies to inform clinical care and personalized GI management in CF.
