Dr. Irina Miralda Molina is a postdoctoral research fellow at Emory University in the Center for Cystic Fibrosis and Airways Disease Research. With over a decade of experience in immunology and microbiology, her research is dedicated to understanding how innate immune cell dysfunction contributes to chronic pulmonary diseases like cystic fibrosis (CF). She earned her PhD from the University of Louisville, where she investigated neutrophil responses to emerging oral pathogens, and later expanded her training at Seattle Children’s Research Institute studying mast cell biology in allergic and infectious disease contexts. At Emory University, Dr. Miralda Molina’s current research bridges basic science with clinical relevance by investigating how mast cells directly and indirectly contribute to chronic inflammation in CF, even after modulator treatment. Her work aims to uncover immune mechanisms that persist despite CFTR modulator therapy, with the goal of identifying new therapeutic targets that improve patient outcomes and complement existing treatments. Beyond the bench, Dr. Miralda Molina is a passionate advocate for access to science for underrepresented communities, scientific communication, and mentorship.
