Charlotte Close, MS, CGC is a genetic counselor in the Division of Clinical Genetics at Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC). She provides genetic counseling within Columbia’s accredited cystic fibrosis (CF) care center and has been instrumental in expanding access to these services through telemedicine and clinical innovation. Charlotte is a co-investigator on the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF)-funded CF-GENES project, which aims to increase access to genetic counseling for caregivers of infants with positive CF newborn screens across New York State. She also serves as the principal investigator of a study developing a reproductive health-focused genetic counseling model for adolescents and young adults with CF.
In line with her commitment to expanding access to genetic counseling, Charlotte was the co-first author of the CFF position paper Redefining the Cystic Fibrosis Care Team. She is actively involved in CUIMC’s genetic counseling graduate program as a course instructor, clinical supervisor, and research mentor. In addition, she contributes to public policy efforts, including statewide licensure advocacy, and is a frequent speaker at national meetings. Charlotte is dedicated to advancing equitable, person-centered care and increasing the visibility of the genetic counseling profession within rare disease communities.
