Stanford University
Biographical Sketch
I have long history in caring for patients with cystic fibrosis since 1986 with the start of my nursing career. Over the past almost 3 decades, my roles have evolved from bedside nurse, nurse practitioner, researcher, program coordinator, educator and project management. I have expertise in translating basic science to the clinical setting, sharing knowledge and implementing evidence-based cystic fibrosis standards of care. Working with, and as a member of an interdisciplinary team has provided me with the skills to implement the principles emphasized in the International Mentoring Training Initiative. Recently I had to opportunity to coach and mentor a Low and Middle income based CF team based in Lima, Peru.
As the CF Newborn Screening Coordinator at Stanford University, I provide direct clinical care to infants diagnosed through the newborn screening program. I have developed this program from the inception of newborn screening in the state of California and my site is a highly regarded referral destination. Over half of the patient population is Hispanic with Spanish as the primary language. I have had the privilege throughout my career to be involved in the care of persons with cystic fibrosis of all ages from birth, to transplant, to adult and end of life. I am acutely aware of the importance of concise culturally sensitive communication, working on realistic time-lines, and within given budgets. In summary, my expertise, translational abilities, and direct clinical expertise has provided me successful implementation of national and international CF initiatives with long term sustainability.
Personally, I enjoy a healthy lifestyle in Northern California with hiking, yoga and daily biking to work as part of my fitness regimen. Lover of animals, children and my new grandchild!
