Derrick is a dad to two amazing boys, Anders (13) and Beckett (10). Beckett was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis after abdominal surgery the morning after he was born and two subsequent weeks in NICU. Driven by a desire to give a voice to every. Passionate about empowering individuals within the healthcare system, Derrick plays an active role in elevating the voices of patients and families. By collaborating with advocacy initiatives, supporting community forums, and engaging directly with those impacted by cystic fibrosis, he champions patient-centered care and the importance of listening to lived experiences. His efforts focus on ensuring that every person affected by cystic fibrosis is heard, respected, and represented in conversations about treatment and policy. Derrick is actively involved in local events with the Central Texas Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and is a Parent Family Partner with Dell Children’s. He is also an adult Critical Care nurse working in ICU, a nursing professor, and stays busy supporting his sons in school and in too many sports. Through his commitment, he helps drive meaningful changes, fosters inclusion, and advances the mission of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation to improve lives now and into the future.
