My name is David B Hill, PhD, and I am an Associate Professor in the Lampe Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering, Marsico Lung Institute, and Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Since completing my PhD at Wake Forest and joining UNC as a post doc in 2003, I have worked closely with the (then) Cystic Fibrosis Center, developing a passion for pulmonary and CF research. Currently, my lab’s research focuses on the role of the mucus layer and mucociliary clearance in maintaining pulmonary function, the effect of disease states on the mucus layer, and the efficacy of muco-corrective therapies. We also leverage our knowledge of mucus physiology to study the role of the mucus layer in the GI and reproductive tracts.
