Christopher F. Drescher, Ph.D. is a Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Health Behavior at Augusta University and a licensed psychologist in the state of Georgia. He completed his doctoral internship and postdoctoral fellowship through the Department of Psychiatry and Health Behavior at Augusta University. He received his PhD and MA in clinical psychology from the University of Mississippi and his BA in psychology from West Virginia University. Dr. Drescher serves as a mental health consultant for the Augusta University Adult Cystic Fibrosis Center. He was part of a multi-site RCT examining Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) telehealth with CF patients (study PI: C. Virginia O'Hayer). He has presented at past NACFC's on a range of behavioral health topics.
Outside of CF, Dr. Drescher specializes in psychotherapy with adolescents and young adults. He directs a Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Adolescent Skills Group, and frequently implements DBT, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and ACT for mood and anxiety disorders. He is the Component Director for the Holistic Patient Care component of the pre-clerkship curriculum for medical students. He is the training director for the Child Clinical Psychology Postdoctoral Fellowship. He is the co-Training Director for the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University/Charlie Norwood VAMC Psychology Internship. His publications/presentations span a range of topics; current research interests include LGBTQ mental health, DBT, and ACT.
