Katherine Wetzel, PhD

Georgia State University

Dr. Katherine (Katie) Wetzel is an Assistant Professor at Georgia State University. She earned her PhD from the University of Pennsylvania in 2017 and then joined Graham Hatfull's lab at the University of Pittsburgh for her postdoctoral research fellowship. She started her research lab at Georgia State University in 2024. The Wetzel Lab studies interactions between mycobacteria and bacteriophages in order to improve our ability to use phages as therapy against mycobacterial infections, provide insight into mycobacteria and their vulnerabilities, and define basic virus-cell interactions.
