Owen Kelly, M.S. (he/his) is a Ph.D. candidate in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Michigan, where he conducts research under the mentorship of Dr. Alexandra Piotrowski-Daspit. He earned his B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Boston University, where he began his research training in the lab of Dr. Joe Tien. Owen’s current work focuses on the design and development of polymeric biomaterials for targeted therapeutic delivery, with an emphasis on applications in diseases such as cystic fibrosis. Now in his third year of doctoral studies, he has established a novel platform utilizing human precision-cut lung slices from donor tissue to evaluate the efficacy of his targeted nanotherapeutics. After completing his Ph.D., Owen plans to lead a research group dedicated to advancing polymer-based delivery systems for cell- and tissue-specific therapies.
