Ms Yanira Manzanares Fornies, Cotutelle PhD student, University of Bristol and Macquarie University.
In 2015, Yanira graduated from the University of Alcala, Spain with a BSc Pharmacy. As part of her degree, she carried a multidisciplinary project with Prof.
Javier de la Mata to develop cationic carbosilane nanomolecules with antibacterial properties against multi-resistant bacteria. She synthesized nanomolecules called dendrimers characterised them with High-Pressure Liquid Chromatography and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, formulated them in a cream and tested their antibacterial activity. After graduation, Yanira moved to UK where she obtained a second BSc in Chemical Sciences at Manchester Metropolitan University and worked in a NHS Laboratory, applying analytical chemistry techniques to ensure the safety of medicines.
She started her Cotutelle PhD at University of Bristol (UK) joined Prof. Anthony Davis and Prof. David Sheppard’s groups to synthesise artifitial anion transporters and investigate their activity in cystic fibrosis epithelial cell expressing different CFTR variants. She continue her PhD at Macquarie University and Woolcock institute of Medical Research in Sydney (Australia) joining Prof. Daniela Traini to investigate the controlled inhale delivery of artificial anion transporters to cystic fibrosis epithelial cells.
