Dr. Caroline Muiler, PhD, is a Postdoctoral Associate in the Department of Pediatrics at Yale School of Medicine. She earned her PhD in Biological Sciences from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), where she investigated extracellular vesicles from mesenchymal stromal cells as a therapeutic approach for sepsis-induced acute kidney injury. Since joining Dr. Nadia Ameen’s laboratory in 2023, Dr. Muiler has focused on intestinal physiology and cystic fibrosis. Her recent work examines CFTR localization in a humanized F508del mouse model and characterizes CFTR High Expresser Cells (CHEs) in the intestine. She is currently involved in three projects: (1) studying immune cell diversification and morphological changes in the CF ileum during development, (2) exploring CHEs and their role in luminal acid sensing and bicarbonate secretion, and (3) investigating kinase signaling in CFTR regulation under stress. Her long-term goal is to establish an independent research program that bridges epithelial biology with translational cystic fibrosis research.
