Tayyab Rehman, MBBS, is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Michigan. He earned his medical degree from King Edward Medical College in Pakistan, followed by a residency in Internal Medicine and a fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, LA. After completing his fellowship, Dr. Rehman moved to Iowa to pursue research training in the laboratory of Dr. Michael Welsh, where his work focused on airway epithelial biology, the regulation of airway surface liquid properties, acid and base transporters, CFTR modulators, and the effects of airway inflammation on epithelial host defenses.
To broaden his research interests and foster new collaborations, Dr. Rehman relocated to Michigan with the goal of establishing an independent research program centered on airway epithelium and pulmonary host defense. His clinical expertise is in the care of patients with bronchiectasis. In addition to several high-impact publications, Dr. Rehman has received prominent recognition for his contributions, including the CFF Harry Shwachman Clinical Investigator Award and the ASCI Emerging-Generation Award. He is passionate about developing innovative, epithelium-directed strategies that will improve health outcomes for a diverse range of lung disorders.
