Jeanette Smith, PhD is a psychologist and the Program Director, CF Behavioral Medicine, working at Phoenix Children’s Hospital with both the Adult and Pediatric CF Clinics. She obtained her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from WVU and completed her Pre-Doctoral and Post-Doctoral Fellowships at Boston’s Children’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School. Dr. Smith has been working with patients with CF for most of her 24 years at Phoenix Children’s Hospital. She has had the opportunity to become more involved and devote most of her time to CF since obtaining the CF Mental Health Coordinator Grant about 9 years ago. Developing and providing needed services to patients and families dealing with CF has been her passion. She helped implement the Depression and Anxiety screening in the Pediatric and Adult CF Clinics. To improve patient follow-through with needed mental health services, she provides in-clinic consultation as well as ongoing individual therapy to pediatric and adult patients with CF. In promoting a resiliency framework for patients with CF, she has written blogs, developed and conducted Resiliency Workshops for parents and significant others, as well as workshops for the advanced parenting skills often needed given the demands of CF. Since covid, Dr. Smith is happily able to offer telehealth groups focused on building resiliency for patients with CF. Thus far, she has developed and conducted telehealth groups for Teens with CF, Young Adults with CF, and Parents with CF, all with a Resiliency focus, with ACT, DBT, and CBT skill building woven throughout as appropriate.
