The Bonnell Foundation: Living with cystic fibrosis
Laura Bonnell is an award-winning journalist who spent 25 years reporting on TV and radio in Detroit. After both her daughters, Molly and Emily, were diagnosed with cystic fibrosis, Laura founded The Bonnell Foundation: Living with Cystic Fibrosis in 2010 to support CF families through financial aid, transplant grants, scholarships (including trade schools and community colleges), and holistic caregiver support. She began leading the Foundation full time in 2019.
The Foundation’s award-winning podcasts and CF Master Class programs reflect her dedication to advocacy and education. Its newest initiative, a peer mentoring program for CF caregivers, is growing rapidly.
Laura is also Vice Chair of Michigan’s Rare Disease Advisory Council (RDAC) and serves on several boards focused on rare disease legislation and advocacy. Her proudest accomplishment—aside from her family—is the impact of the Foundation on the CF community.
