School of Physiology, Pharmacology and Neuroscience, University of Bristol
David N. Sheppard, PhD, is Professor of Physiology at the University of Bristol (Bristol, UK). He investigates the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR), its dysfunction in cystic fibrosis (CF) and rescue with small molecules using electrophysiological techniques. David’s interest in CF began studying intestinal ion channels with Francisco V. Sepúlveda (AFRC Institute of Animal Physiology and Genetic Research, Babraham, UK). After his PhD, David investigated neuronal ion channels with Fernando Giraldez (Valladolid University, Valladolid, Spain) before studying CFTR with Michael J. Welsh (University of Iowa) in the period immediately following the identification of CFTR as an epithelial anion channel. Returning to the UK, David was a BBSRC Advance Research Fellow at the University of Edinburgh (Edinburgh, UK) before joining the University of Bristol.
