Dr. Oates is Associate Professor in the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care Medicine in the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Heersink School of Medicine. She is a social epidemiologist with expertise in the social determinants of health and the application of SDOH measures, tools, and data for health services, outcomes, and population health research. She investigates the impact of sociodemographic factor and environmental exposures on health outcomes in cystic fibrosis and implements multilevel interventions to ameliorate their effect. She also has interest in interventions that support adherence and self-management in people with cystic fibrosis. Her work is funded by grants from the National Institutes of Health, the CF Foundation, and the Alabama Department of Public Health, among others.
