Emma B. Dean, PhD, is an assistant professor at the Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice. She is a health economist whose research focuses largely on the pharmaceutical industry, with a particular interest in the study of high-cost specialty medications. Her research covers topics such as drug price negotiations and payments, pharmaceutical price controls, pooled purchasing of pharmaceuticals, and price transparency. Additionally, she studies the relationship between poverty and health, with a particular focus on access to medicine for underserved populations. She earned a PhD in Managerial Science and Applied Economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
