Management of infections and inflammation in cystic fibrosis (CF) requires a multifaceted approach that considers therapeutic interventions, the host immune response, the unique lung microenvironment, and the dynamic interplay of microbial communities. This session will explore strategies from each of these facets with the goal of improving infection outcomes and taming inflammation. Presentations will cover innovative strategies to enhance antimicrobial efficacy, including phage therapy and antibiotic potentiation, while also examining how viral co-infections and mucin accumulation shape microbial ecology and host-pathogen interactions. By integrating insights from microbiology, immunology, and airway physiology, attendees will gain understanding of novel molecular strategies to optimize infection management in CF, tailored to the patient’s infection status and lung environment.
