LL12--Antibiotics Strategies in the Post-modulator Era, A Pro/Con Discussion

Speakers will present an overview of the changing epidemiology of bacterial lung infections in children and adults with cystic fibrosis in the post-modulator era. Speakers will also describe unintended consequences of antibiotic use, including effects on the gut microbiome, other lung infections, and immune cells. The speakers will then discuss the pros and cons of antibiotic use for eradication, exacerbation, and chronic infection. The session will include a question-and-answer discussion with the audience.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe the changing epidemiology of bacterial lung infection in children and adults with cystic fibrosis.
  • Discuss the unintended effects of antibiotics in persons with cystic fibrosis.
  • Examine the pros and cons of antibiotic treatment in the post-modulator era in three circumstances: eradication, exacerbation, and chronic infection.
