CF is increasingly recognized as a multisystem disease, with gastrointestinal and hepatic complications emerging as important contributors to overall morbidity. This session will explore the evolving understanding of hepatobiliary involvement in CF, including challenges in diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment in the era of CFTR modulator therapy, in addition to new information on management of enteral nutrition, pancreatic insufficiency, constipation, and distal intestinal obstruction syndrome and meconium ileus in the post-modulator era. The session will also cover complex case discussions and provide a platform for dialogue on future directions in hepatic care for individuals with CF.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify and evaluate emerging diagnostic and monitoring approaches for early detection and risk stratification of hepatic and pancreatic complications in individuals with CF in the era of highly effective CFTR modulators
  • Analyze Pediatric Health Information System (PHIS) data to assess the impact of CFTR modulators on the clinical management of common gastrointestinal symptoms in children with CF
  • Formulate evidence-based approaches to optimize nutritional management, guide enteral support decisions, and structure long-term gastrointestinal care in the context of highly effective CFTR modulator therapy
