SPC02--Afternoon- Healing the Hurt: Managing Pain with Evidence-based Strategies

This special class is designed for CF healthcare providers of any discipline who are interested in learning strategies to support managing pain in people with CF across the lifespan. The session will address the assessment and intervention for various types of acute and chronic pain in CF. Participants will have the opportunity to learn cognitive behavioral (CBT) interventions for pain and practice skills using CF-specific scenarios. The role of physical therapy strategies, pharmacologic treatments (including psychotropic medications), and alternative therapies will be discussed. Participants register for the morning session, the afternoon session, or both sessions.

Learning Objectives:

  • Discuss the prevalence and impact of pain on daily life and functioning for people with CF.
  • Review CF Foundation evidence-informed guidelines for addressing pain in people living with CF.
  • Learn multimodal strategies to assess and more effectively manage pain in individuals with CF.
